Massage Modalities

  • Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy involves the manipulation of soft tissue to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasms, and stress.

It allows for greater blood flow to the soft tissues and relaxes muscle fibers. It releases endorphins which reduce pain, elevate mood and helps clients feel much more relaxed.

Massage therapy helps to reduce stress hormones such as cortisol and facilitates greater healing and wellbeing.

Massage Therapy is a valuable form of self-care rather than a self-indulgent luxury treatment. It has many health benefits including stress management, healing and pain reduction, immune system support, blood pressure reduction, and allows for decreased usage of pain medication and less frequent visits to the doctor.

  • Neuromuscular Massage Therapy

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy (NMT) is a modality which is more specific in identifying and treating soft tissue pain and dysfunction. NMT is often used to “trigger points” in the muscle tissue.

NMT is an effective modality for muscle aches and pain due to overuse, injury, stress, car accidents, and sports injuries. It is used to help heal soft tissue problems such as sciatica, headaches, neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, TMJ dysfunction, and whiplash injuries due to motor vehicle accidents

If you have been in a Motor Vehicle Accident (Car Accident) your massage therapy can be covered by your auto insurance policy (with a prescription from a physician).

Blending NMT with craniosacral therapy in a session combines effective muscle and soft tissue therapy with the deeply balancing, calming, and healing effects of craniosacral therapy. It is a favorite of many!

  • Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on, whole-body modality that focuses on stimulating your craniosacral system (membranes and fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord) to heal the body by improving the functioning of the central nervous system.

CST effectively complements your body’s natural healing process and has been known to help alleviate a wide variety of problems including: headaches, neck and low back pain, hip pain, stress related problems, immune disorders, fibromyalgia, central nervous system, disorders, TMJ Syndrome, Autism, chronic fatigue, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and many more conditions.

Craniosacral therapy addresses the body, mind, spirit energetically and physically with touch that opens up blocked and stagnated channels so that the client can receive healing.  It offers the client a space of deep stillness for accessing healing and wisdom for change.

A typical craniosacral session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. You may also choose to combine a massage session with a craniosacral session. This is a great way to experience the combined benefits of massage therapy and the gentle healing qualities of craniosacral therapy.

  • Cupping Therapy

Cupping is an ancient therapy used for pain relief and healing which originated in China and West Asia. In cupping therapy, suction is used to increase blood and lymph flow to a specific area of the body.

Occasionally small blood vessels burst which results in marks that may look like a bruise. These cupping marks heal in a relatively short time. Reported Benefits Include:

    -Reduced pain and inflammation

-Relief from migraines and tension headaches

    -Decreased muscle tightness.

    -Improved blood flow.

    -Increased range of motion.

I often use cupping as a part of the overall massage session. If you are interested in experiencing cupping as part of your massage therapy session, let me know.

“I’ve been seeing Katrin for both medical and exercise recovery-related massage for 7+ years. She is an amazing massage therapist and human being. Her bedside madder is top-notch, and she has a very adaptive approach to each session depending on your needs. She is a master at incorporating intra-session biofeedback and knows my body’s strong and weak points better than myself. I always feel refreshed both physically and mentally after every session.

Lisa M.

“I’ve been seeing Katrin for massage therapy for a number of years and she helps relieve the stress and tension I have in my upper body and hip areas. I have tried other massage therapists in the past and no one comes close to the kind, caring, and experience that Katrin offers. She is truly one of kind!!”

Sydney T.

“I received a 1-hour massage with Katrin as a gift from my friend for my birthday. It was hands down the best massage I have ever had! I have never had a massage from someone with such a clear understanding of human physiology, and she was even able to give me recommendations for stretches after our session. I will definitely be coming back!”
